Friendly match
Burnham 29, Barton Hill 10
BURNHAM took advantage of the week’s break from league action to give an opportunity to some of their promising young players in a friendly against Bristol-based Barton Hill.
Burnham scored five tries on their way to a 29-10 victory, with scores from Mason Shaw, Matthew Maka, Russell Pike, Tom Chaffey and Luke Gowan.
The scoring started after five minutes when Mason Shaw barged his way over following good work from Tim Piper.
Ten minutes later, Matthew Maka intercepted on half-way to run in untouched after a solid kick chase, Piper converted for a 12-0 lead.
Pike added a third on 25 minutes, using his pace and agility to score under the posts after the forwards had recycled the ball twice.
Barton Hill replied with good retention to score out wide for 19-5, but on the stroke of half-time Chaffey took advantage of an open blindside to cross in the corner.
The second half fizzled out into a bit of an anti-climax as the sides cancelled each other out.
Luke Gowan scored Burnham’s fifth try on the hour, before Barton Hill added their second – as the game finished 29-10 to the hosts.
