Truro 45, Burnham 7
BURNHAM’S promotion hopes suffered a huge setback as they were humbled 45-7 by Cornish outfit Truro on Saturday.
The home side scored seven tries to thrash Burnham out of sight, with the game sewn up inside the first half.
Burnham could only manage a consolation penalty try in the dying minutes, thanks to a powerful scrum which had been one of the few positives from the day.
The result sees Truro leapfrog Burnham into third in Western Counties West, leaving Burnham now five points adrift of Teignmouth in second. Truro raced into a 17-0 lead with three quick fire tries inside the first ten minutes – as Jake Champion (2) and Tom Hatfield both registered in an explosive opening quarter.
Burnham eventually got into the game with some long periods of possession, but some loose handling in their own 22 saw Truro winger Boon race in for a fourth try of the first period.
Truro number eight Adam Gayton broke through to feed Rikki Brandham shortly after the interval for number five – and Gayton did the same again from the resulting kick-off, this time teeing up Matt Cross to put Truro into a 38-0 lead.
Trescothick crossed to make the score 45-0 – and Burnham could only manage a late penalty try on what was very much an afternoon to forget.
