Western Counties North

Keynsham 17, Burnham 6

BURNHAM began life in Western Counties North with a bruising 17-6 defeat at Bristol side Keynsham.

The visitors, who plied their trade in Western Counties West last season, were forced to play ten minutes of the first half with only 14-men following a sin-binning – but headed into the half-time break trailing just 10-3, courtesy of a penalty.

Jack Evans had opened the scoring for Keynsham with a converted try midway through the first-half – but a second Burnham penalty closed the gap to four points shortly after the break.

But with three minutes remaining on the clock, Keynsham added their second try of the afternoon to take their lead to 11 points and secure a hard-fought victory.

Burnham welcome Newent to the BASC Ground this weekend, hoping for their first points of the season – they travel to North Bristol the following weekend.
