Burnham II 69 Minehead II 5

BURNHAM II romped to an emphatic 69-5 victory over Minehead II on Saturday.

Burnham, whose side had an average age of 22, ran in 11 tries with Ash Tucker, Mason Shaw, Jake Allen, Tim James, Alex Watkins (2), Tom Wall, Tim Piper, Tom Stevens and Ben Gibb (2) all crossing.

The scoring started with Mason Shaw gathering a Minehead kick that saw a combination of passes release winger Ash Tucker.

Shaw was not to be outdone by his winger and at the next opportunity he a cut a line from a clean delivery from Alex Watkins to score under the posts.

The third try was scored by Jake Allen and this was followed up shortly by full-back Tim James popping up in the back line from a Burnham half break.

His fleet of foot left Minehead looking as though they were all stood in quick sand. Alex Watkins converted all four tries to conclude the half at 28-0.

From the kick-off, Sam Wall gathered and set off, before Alex Watkins released his backs and then linked back up with them to finish his try under the posts.

Burnham then battled their way back up the pitch and a lineout won by Tom Stevens released Tom Wall to finish in the corner.

Minehead would not lie down and from a scrum close to the Burnham line, they eventually crossed.

But the flood gates soon opened with Tim Piper, Tom Stevens, another one for Alex Watkins and Ben Gibb (2) scoring late on.

Alex Watkins converted four of the second-half tries.

Burnham host Somerton next Saturday – 2.30pm kick-off.
