Martock 5 Burnham 2s 50

BURNHAM II eased to a 50-5 demolition of Martock on Saturday, but the score line did not reflect how much effort the home side made to spoil the party, especially up front.

Tim Piper sold a dummy and glided over for the opening try, which he converted.

Piper added his and Burnham’s second after number eight Jake Allen picked up and broke loose before feeding him to go over for a converted try.

This was soon followed by a bullish run from Matt Fear who made line breaks all afternoon to go over to finish the half with a try.

The second half saw Burnham take their foot off the gas for the first 20 mins and Martock, playing to the referee, took the upper hand at the breakdown.

A resulting scrum led to a break by their scrum half who forced Burnham to scramble back, but they could stop the Martock maul that followed.

A few words of encouragement by Tim Piper and Burnham lifted their game.

The score line would have been much higher if the final passes had been better as flyers Chris Marsh, Aidan Osman and Brandon Petit started to run surging lines into the Martock half.

Burnham continued to work hard and the tries came.

Scrum half Mike Nash, Jake Allen, and Ryan Beard all went over as the light faded over the Martock team and their pitch.

Burnham II host Midsomer Norton this weekend (2.30pm).
