Burnham 15 Chew Valley 12

BURNHAM made it three successive league wins with a hard-fought 15-12 victory over Chew Valley on Saturday.

In the first half an hour, Burnham won their set piece scrums and lineouts, but could not find touch from the back and allowed Chew to run the ball back.

Matt Love went close after breaking down the blindside, before Jordan Paul stepped up and converted a penalty to give Burnham the lead.

From the restart, a brave catch from Tom Hocking secured possession, but Burnham gave away two penalties and from one, Chew Valley kicked to the corner and drove over for a converted try.

After the break, Burnham hit back and after securing good lineout ball, Richard Muskett touched down.

With the conversion by Jordan Paul, Burnham now led 10-7 – and it was soon 15-7 as Jordyn Wikitera crashed over for the final Burnham try of the match.

Chew Valley responded with a try from their full-back, but the conversion was missed, leading to a nervy final period.

With the game on a knife edge, Burnham defended ferociously to pip Chew at the posts. Next week Burnham are away to Avon - coach leaving at 11:45.
