BURNHAM-ON-SEA RFC begin their 2017-18 season in Western Counties West with a home match against Kingsbridge tomorrow (September 2, ko 3pm).

The Seasiders have won three out of three in pre-season, and will be looking to improve on last season, which saw them avoid relegation by the skin of their teeth – and almost entirely thanks to their strong home form.

They follow the Kingsbridge match with another home game, against Chard – relegated from South West 1 West last year – on September 9, and then go to Crediton on September 16.

Pre-season friendly
Burnham-on-Sea 17, Yeovil 0

BURNHAM concluded their pre-season matches successfully against Yeovil, having won three out of three.

From the start of the match, they displayed their solidarity in defence before they began to exert their own efforts, culminating in a pushover try claimed by Chris Warner.

Ten minutes later there was a similar result after a series of mauls and, yet again, a Warner try.

There were notable efforts from Stevens and Howard in the tackling department, and at half time the score was 12-0.

Burnham kept up their confidence, no matter which 15 were playing, and some fine play by James Wright saw him charge down a clearing kick, follow up and successfully ground the ball.

Even with several players missing on the night, Burnham showed that this season, especially with the advent of some of the development squad stepping up, they will be a force to be reckoned with.

However, skipper Ross McKechan and coach Kevin Inalls both insist that they must keep up the training intensity and their fitness levels to realise that potential.
