Western Counties West
Torquay Athletic 15, Burnham-on-Sea 5

BURNHAM were narrowly beaten on Saturday by Torquay Athletic, who in turn boosted their own survival chances.

Scrum-half Sam Lewis scored the visitors’ only try, though captain Ross McKechan was pleased with the spirit shown by his already relegated side.

He said: “We worked hard defensively but gave them easy points which opened up their lead.

“We missed some good opportunities with the boot, but it was another good battle and our young lads really stepped up to the plate.”

This weekend, Burnham play their final home game of a tough season as Truro are the visitors.

McKechan said: “They’ve got a long way to come and we gave them a good game at their place earlier in the season.

“We’ll train hard on Thursday night and be ready to tear into them come Saturday.”
