Western Counties West
Kingsbridge 55, Burnham-on-Sea 5
BURNHAM-ON-SEA brought the curtain down on a difficult season with a defeat at Kingsbridge on Saturday.
The relegated side travelled with confidence having shown what they were capable of by beating Truro the previous weekend, but they were on the back foot from the start in Devon.
The hosts opened the scoring on 10 minutes and had the bonus point wrapped up soon afterwards, scoring nine tries in all to Burnham’s one.
Burnham finish the season rock bottom with four wins and a draw from their 26 matches, but they now have a summer to re-group ahead of a new challenge in Somerset Premier next season.
With a promising crop of young players having impressed in tough circumstances this season, Burnham will be hopeful of seeing an upturn in results come the new campaign.
Burnham-on-Sea 2nds were well beaten in their Somerset 2 South season finale, going down 60-5 at home to champions Castle Cary.
The visitors had lost just once all season and were in no mood to let up on Saturday, finishing with a remarkable points difference of +1,088.
Burnham, for their part, finish fifth with 14 wins from their 24 matches.
The next big event at the club is the Gullivers weekend, a youth rugby festival which runs from May 4-7.
