A YOUNG footballer from Burnham is going from strength to strength after being selected by the South West Centre of Excellence – one step closer to a place in the England Ladies set-up.

Over six years ago, the Weekly News reported on Megan Robinson, aged seven at the time, who had been accepted into the Somerset Football Association Centre of Excellence and was showing great potential for a career in football.

Megan, now 13, has been at the centre for six seasons, played in hundreds of games scoring against teams like Arsenal and Chelsea Ladies, and was recently nominated by the Somerset Centre to attend trials at King’s College.

After successful trials playing against 22 of the best players from all over the South West, Megan has been selected to represent the South West Centre of Excellence and will have to attend five weekend camps training with FA England coaches and playing against the likes of Aston Villa, West Brom, Stoke, Birmingham and Bristol.

The budding star, who currently plays for Yeovil Town Girls under-15s, is now seen as being in the top 16 under-15s girl footballers in the South West of England.

Paula Robinson, Megan’s mum, said: “We are very proud of Megan and what she has achieved, she’s been playing since she was five years old and it’s all she has ever wanted.”
