It took town till midway through the first half for Town settle and start knocking the ball about an on 35 minutes a ball in from the left by Chris Taylor was turned home by Kane Powell but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Town did take the lead right on half-time with Mike Green linking up well with Kane Powell who squared across goal for the oncoming Chris Taylor to smash them ball home past United's keeper to give Town the lead into the break.

It took three minutes for Highbridge to increase their lead in the second half - when a high free-kick was whipped in by Hampson, the ball feel kindly to Mike Green to out jump the keeper and double Town's lead.

Shortly after, Powell made it three with a stinging drive - cutting in on his left foot and drilling it into the top corner.

Town started to take over now in midfield with Hirons, Bailey, Elliott, Taylor and Powell starting to control everything - and a fine run by Hirons into the box drew a foul, and the same player picked himself up to despatch the penalty.

Burnham were then reduced to nine men following two straight red cards within a 10 minute spell - and this allowed Town to push on and score a further three goals from Kane Powell, taking his total to four for the day in a fine performance against his former club.

Highbridge Town manager, Matt Pitt said: “Again I am delighted with the boys as the second half performance was first class and it feels great to get one over on our nearest rivals.

“For years we have been seen as the small club down the road but after this result I hope it shows the quality we have at this club as the strength we have as a squad is clear for all to see.

“Burnham caused us a lot of problems in the opening 30 minutes and fair play to them but I was always confidant once we got into our stride we would be too strong for them and that proved to be the case.”
