Taunton & District League Division Three

Highbridge Town Reserves 1, Woolavington 6

HIGHBRIDGE Town Reserves remain without a league win this season following a 6-1 home defeat to Woolavington on Saturday.

Ellis Preedy scored the only goal of the game for Town, but strikes from Simon Coombes (2), Josh Corkett (2) and Jon Higgins (2) put the game well out of the hosts' reach.

Town Reserves trail second from bottom Redgate by six points - and life doesn't get any easier for them, as they host league leaders Sydenham Rangers this weekend.

Highbridge first team travel the short distance to take on Taunton United 1610, who currently sit in eighth in Division Two West, three points and three places below Town.

A win could see Highbridge climb to fourth place in the division, with third place Winscombe and fourth place Worle meeting at The Recreation Ground, Winscombe.

Manager Matt Pitt said: “Taunton are currently on a decent run like us, with five wins from their last six games, with their only defeat coming at the hands of high flying Winscombe in a 5-4 thriller.

“We will be up for the game and will travel to Taunton in full confidence of achieving all three points and I think we will do it in style too by a few goals.

“Not taking anything away from Taunton, but if we want to continue on the promotion push we have to be putting teams like them to bed and I have every faith that Saturday will be no different.

“We then go to league leaders Combe St Nichols at the REC the week after, in what will be a great clash against a very physical side - and will give us the chance to yet again avenge another previous defeat earlier in the season and close the gap on the top two.”
