YOUNG soccer enthusiasts in Somerset who play a major part in ensuring the local game flourishes are to be rewarded for their endeavours through an exciting event.

Volunteers in grassroots football aged between 14 and 25 are offered the opportunity to attend day-long Football Futures Camps organised by Somerset FA Youth Council.

Somerset FA college and community football co-ordinator Kirsty Whitton said: “The youth council is inviting all young volunteers aged between 14 and 25 to receive a day of football leadership and volunteering training for just £5.

“We’re running these camps as a thank-you for the dedication and contribution to grassroots football shown by young people in the county.

“So much hard work and support in developing the grassroots game in Somerset is put in by them and we want to show their efforts are really appreciated.

“The events will be delivered by Somerset FA staff, FA tutors and youth council members, covering a diverse selection of football disciplines that will provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to develop a whole host of leadership and life skills.

“The camps will consist of a day of learning across coaching, refereeing, running events and futsal, and all young leaders who attend will receive a free Football Futures T-shirt.”

Participants have a choice of three camps being staged across the county, including Buckler’s Mead Academy, Yeovil, on Monday, February 16; Bridgwater College on Tuesday, February 17; and St Brendan’s Sixth Form College, Brislington, Bristol, on Wednesday, February 18. All will be held between 9.30am and 4pm.

Interested individuals can book online, or via post, by visiting the news section of Somerset FA’s official website somersetfa.com for full information.

Deadline for bookings is 5pm on Monday, February 9. People are asked to state their preferred venue.
