Somerset County Division Two West

Weston St Johns Res 1, Highbridge Town 4

HIGHBRIDGE Town manager Matt Pitt was pleased to see his side ‘avoid a slip up’ after they comfortably beat basement side Weston St Johns Reserves on Saturday.

Matt Scott bagged a hat-trick for Town and Chris Taylor was also on the score sheet for the visitors – and Pitt was pleased to see his side come away with a result, despite not being at their best.

He said: “I knew coming here it was going to be a difficult game, having played here myself years ago - it’s a hostile place to come too, but a good experience all the same.

“With St Johns’ fall out in the week we had the unfortunate time of playing them this weekend when they had a few first teamers down after the first team manager was removed from his role in the week - and they gave a great account of themselves after the heavy defeat by us earlier in the season.

“It was by far not our greatest performance but to win and not play well shows signs of a great side we have here and missing key players I was glad we managed to avoid a slip up and continue to press on in the league.”

On 20 minutes town finally got the ball down and some swift passing in midfield allowed the ball to find Mike Green on the right who crossed for Matt Scott to turn home with a lovely well placed finish.

Town were not having it their own way with St Johns front two causing problems - and they soon levelled with a very good finish.

Within 10 minutes, Town restored their lead through a Chris Taylor free kick.

In a scrappy game, Town had many chances to put the game to bed, but it took until the 85th minute for Scott to out muscle the Weston centre half and get on the end of a through ball to slot past the keeper - and in similar fashion Scott capped a fine performance by securing his hat-trick on 90 minutes.

Highbridge welcome second placed Worle to the REC this Saturday.
