Somerset County Division Two West

Clevedon United Reserves 2, Burnham United Reserves 1

AN improved performance wasn’t enough to prevent Burnham United from slipping to defeat at Clevedon United Reserves.

In the first-half the game was evenly matched, with both defences holding off any attacks from either team with Matt Dibble in strong form.

In midfield, Daniel Reasons was being creative - and Joe Selway playing a more defensive role worked well for Burnham.

The best chance of the first half fell to Dan Broom, who fired narrowly over.

The half-time whistle came at a good time for Burnham, as Clevedon began to get on top.

In the second half Clevedon continued where they left off and scored an early goal.

Burnham scored an equaliser, when debutant Lewis Rogers raced onto a through ball, but the ref didn’t play advantage and pulled the game back for a Burnham free-kick.

This was doubly disappointing, as Clevedon from their next attack were awarded a penalty, which they made it 2-0.

Broom scored from a great strike and the game opened up for the final 10 minutes.

Burnham pushed men forward and Clevedon could have extend their leads on the break several times, but there were no more goals.
