Somerset County Division Two West

Churchill Club 70 0, Highbridge Town 3

HIGHBRIDGE Town boss Matt Pitt is targeting a top four finish in Division Two West after his side cruised to a 3-0 win at Churchill Club 70 on Saturday.

Matt Scott scored his second successive hat-trick to seal all three points for Town – and Pitt hasn’t ruled out a late charge for promotion.

“Having comfortably already beaten Churchill twice this season, we knew what we had to do and we did it in the first 30 minutes of the game by racing to a 3-0 start,” he said. “The boys held on to the ball and played some great stuff in challenging conditions - and should be proud that they carried everything we spoke about before hand and executed tremendously in the first-half.

“All credit to Churchill who never gave up in the second-half and on a different day could have scored at least one when we were coasting, but the result was never in doubt - and now we travel to Clevedon United Reserves on Saturday in a game we need to keep this winning momentum going before our big semi-final the week after.

“If we win all our remaining three league games we can finish top four I believe - and last year that was a promotion place, so fingers crossed it will be this year, as the boys are more than good enough to compete at that level and succeed.

“If we don’t go up then I think we will be one of the favourites next year to win this league - and rightly so with our performances over the past 14 games.”

Town found themselves a goal up after 10 minutes when a Will Bailey through ball found red-hot striker Matt Scott who cushioned the ball and struck it past the keeper to make it 1-0.

A pass from Stuart Green saw Chris Taylor released in acres of space - and his cross in was nipped over the diving keeper by Scott to make it two.

Shortly after, Powell’s ball through found Matt Scott and the in-form striker made it back-to-back hat-tricks by dispatching past the Churchill keeper.
