Berrow 4, Broad Plain House 2

GOALKEEPER Nick Slack scored from his own penalty area as Berrow fought back from 2-0 down to beat basement side Broad Plain House on Saturday.

Slack’s long kick downfield found the back of the net early in the second-half, while Jack Taylor (2) and Dave Keirle were also on target for the home side.

Berrow made the worst possible start when hesitation in defence let Broad Plain Striker in - and he gave Slack no chance from 15 yards.

Top scorer Jack Taylor went close after being put through by Shaun Lismore, but it was Broad Plain who scored next when a corner was flicked in at the near post.

Berrow regrouped and got themselves back into the game, with Taylor causing all kinds of problems and Harry Penfold and Luke McErlain taking control of the midfield.

Tom Yates headed over when well placed and James Gass also went close after good work from Taylor.

The breakthrough came when skipper McErlain was bought down in the box and Taylor stepped up to score from the spot on 40 minutes.

With the wind at their backs in the second half, Berrow attacked from the start with Broad Plain becoming frustrated and starting to pick up bookings.

Berrow’s equalizer came from an unexpected source, as keeper Slack, using the wind to his advantage, beat his opposite number with a long clearance kick downfield.

The away side were then reduced to 10 men but still went close to scoring when Berrow lost the ball in midfield - but the striker pulled his shot wide.

Dave Keirle replaced Shaun Lismore and from a corner, he turned Penfold’s corner home with his first touch. Berrow were well on top now, with Taylor forcing a save from the Broad Plain keeper, before a good bit of defending prevented him adding to his tally.

Keirle hit the post as Berrow tried to put the game beyond doubt - and on 85 minutes, Taylor found the net again with a cool finish.

Charlie Evans, who had earlier replaced Tom Yates, put a couple of testing crosses in and Penfold freed Taylor who pulled his shot wide as Berrow comfortably saw out the remainder of the game.
