Somerset Senior County Cup

Ashton United FC 1, Highbridge Town FC 2

HIGHBRIDGE Town manager Matt Pitt said he was ‘happy to be in the hat’ after his side qualified for the first round of the Somerset County Cup with a 2-1 win at Ashton United.

Goals from Matt Scott and Chris Taylor were enough for Highbridge, who fought back from 1-0 down to make it three wins from three this season.

Manager Pitt described the performance as ‘far from vintage’ but praised the grit and determination of his players.

He said: “We were missing a few players today and I am happy that the lads who come in did a job to get us in the hat for the next round and we look forward to the challenge of the next round.

“It was far from vintage but I am just glad we came away with the win and hopefully we don’t have to go back there anytime soon as it’s not a nice place to visit.

“The only downside of today was potentially losing Matt Scott who was pivotal last year for us last year who had to come off due to a nasty one on him and I hope it’s nothing too serious and he is back within a few weeks, as his ankle looked nasty after the game.

“That’s now three out of three wins for the season and on Saturday we hope to make that four when we travel to Weston St Johns in the divisional cup - and after reaching the semi’s in this competition last year we really hope to make another good run in this competition before returning to league action on September 19 at home to Cheddar Reserves.”
