Berrow 1 Bridgwater Town Reserves 3
BERROW slumped to a fourth straight defeat after squandering a 1-0 lead to go down 3-1 at home to local rivals Bridgwater Town Reserves.
Jack Taylor fired Berrow into the lead midway through the first-half, but Town hit back with an equaliser, before going on to seal victory with two second-half goals, leaving Berrow third from bottom in Somerset Premier.
Berrow managed to break the deadlock first, taking advantage of an error in the Bridgwater defence, as Govier misplaced the ball to Taylor who made no mistake in stroking the ball across the line to give Berrow a 1-0 lead after 18 minutes.
The reserves soon made good inroads down their right flank, working the ball into the penalty area to top goal scorer Chris Young who struck the ball into the top right-hand corner to equalise.
It was a different Bridgwater side in the second-half with the Robins dominating possession and they made it 2-1 when a cross from Champion was poorly cleared and George Sinnott volleyed the ball into the back of net.
Town then missed a golden opportunity to make it 3-1 when Govier saw his penalty saved after a handball on the goal line.
The Berrow player was sent-off for denying a clear goal - but minutes later, Matt Connick was fouled in the penalty area and he picked himself up to send the goalkeeper the wrong way and make it 3-1 to the Robins.
Berrow host Wrington redhill in the cup on Saturday, hoping to kick-start their season, before travelling to Nailsea and Tickenham on October 10.
