Somerset County League Division 1 West
Burnham United 1, Street Reserves 0
BURNHAM went into their final league game full of confidence following their 4-1 win over Uphill Castle last week, as the Seasiders entertained Street Reserves determined to finish the season on a high.
The game had few chances, but was decided in the 62nd minute when Joe Selway scored his fourth goal in two games with a solo effort that beat the keeper and found the bottom corner.
That goal, and a clean sheet, gave Burnham the 1-0 victory which sees them finish in eighth place in Division 1 West of the Somerset County League on 31 points.
After an indifferent run which saw them go five matches without a win, United ended the season strongly with two consecutive victories to go into the summer on a high.
Manager Steve Hainsby, reflecting on his first season in charge of the first team, said: “I have really enjoyed this season and am pleased with the positive end to the season, showing how far we have come.
“I must give a big thank you to all the players that have wore the Burnham shirt.
“Burnham United AFC is a special club and my hopes for next season are to push on and keep improving all the time.
“Promotion is my aim and a realistic target.”
