Somerset County League Division 1 West
Berrow & Highbridge 4, Clevedon United Reserves 0

BERROW & Highbridge’s perfect start to the season continued on Saturday against Clevedon United’s second string at Red Road.

It was a beautiful day in Berrow, but the heat and the fact it was the hosts’ fifth game in 14 days, with many players clearly carrying knocks, made for a fairly laboured first 45 minutes.

B&H controlled long periods of the half, with Will Bailey controlling the midfield and Morgan Sealey shielding Berrow’s largely untroubled back three, but there were few clear chances.

Just before half time Scott Harman broke clear from the edge of his own box, but then blazed over with two team-mates begging for the pull-back.

Half time saw stern words from the B&H management, and the hosts quickly upped their game upon the restart.

Chris Taylor once again was the man to get things going with a clinical free kick, and the tireless Harman then atoned for his earlier miss with a good finish.

Darren Partridge then netted his third in as many games, with a true striker’s finish.

Abbey Cabs Man of the Match Harman rounded things off with a fourth, capping a fine performance at right wing-back.

This Saturday (September 2), B&H are at Nailsea & Tickenham Reserves (ko 3pm).

BURNHAM United were without a match in Somerset County League Division 1 West last weekend, as scheduled opponents Churchill Club 70 were unable to raise a side.

Burnham United Reserves 1, Nailsea United Reserves 0

FOLLOWING last week’s first victory of the season, Burnham Reserves made it back-to-back wins, though it was a hard-fought one in a game of few chances.

The hosts didn’t start at a great pace and let a decent Nailsea team play some good flowing football, but fortunately for them the visitors did not force goalkeeper Ashley Harrison into action.

Before half time the hosts had to make two changes to the team due to injuries, with Harrison Kidner and Declan Christie both on the wrong end of late tackles.

Ten minutes into the second half, 16-year-old Aminul Barik scored the only game of the game with a great volley that found the bottom corner.

The team had to defend stoutly to hold on, particularly during the last 10 minutes, but it was a pleasing performance overall.
