Somerset County League
Division 2
Burnham United Reserves 2, Cheddar Reserves 1

BURNHAM United Reserves produced some flowing, counter-attacking football in the opening part of this game and created a number of few chances.

The best of those fell to Russell Holley, who twice couldn’t convert them, and the first half finished 0-0.

Burnham started the second half with the same intensity and went ahead from a corner, which Luc Walker finished with a glancing header.

Ten minutes later, the superb Benny Windram latched on to a Holley pass but his first-time shot smashed against the post.

Five minutes later, it was 2-0 when a Charlie Harding corner went straight in.

Cheddar scored a consolation goal with 10 minutes to go but Burnham’s battling spirit held out for a vital three points.

Portishead Town B 2, Burnham United B 0

BURNHAM B took a very young and inexperienced side to Portishead in the cup.

Playing a team two divisions higher, the youngsters knew they would have to defend for the majority of the game and they did so well.

Keeper Dylan Webb produced some good saves as part of a commanding performance in goal.

It was 0-0 at half time but Portishead broke the deadlock on 65 minutes and scored again with 10 minutes left.

This was an impressive result given the average was under 19.
