Burnham United 1, Nailsea & Tickenham Reserves 3

BURNHAM’S second game of 2018 ended in a 3-1 defeat at home to Nailsea & Tickenham Reserves.

In an evenly matched first half, the hosts created numerous chances but failed to open the scoring.

It was the away side who took the lead in the last minute of the first half, breaking away to score.

United looked to get back into the game from the restart and were rewarded 10 minutes into the second half when a left-footed strike from Joe Selway found the net.

But in the 65th minute, the Seasiders were dealt a huge blow while on top, as Harry Penfold was sent off for a second booking.

The visitors then took advantage, taking the lead, and with a 10-man Burnham side pushing to get the equaliser Nailsea scored on the break to wrap up the three points.

Burnham are ninth in the league table, and although they have games in hand on eighth-placed Glastonbury, they will be hard pressed to catch the top seven.

Their next match is due to be this coming Saturday (ko 3pm), away to Portishead Town Reserves, who are one place and three points behind them in the league standings.

Burnham United B 1, West Wick 1

BURNHAM B team's last chance of a promotion push was finally ended, but they did claim a well-deserved point against table-topping West Wick.

In an even first half, the home side went ahead, as Ben Gates scored his first Burnham goal.

After the break, the visitors pushed forward to keep their unbeaten run going, and they scored towards the end of the game.

Burnham knew a win was needed, so pushed forward, and right at the end Louie Jones had a chance to win the game, but his shot went just over.
