STRUGGLING Berrow & Highbridge FC have withdrawn from Division 1 West of the Somerset County League.

The club formed over the summer as a merger between Berrow FC and Highbridge Town and started the season with five straight wins, but their campaign has gone downhill rapidly since then.

Recent heavy defeats at Glastonbury (16-0) and Worle (22-0) hastened their withdrawal, while several games were forfeited due to lack of players.

A Somerset County League spokesman said: “They have advised that they are unable to secure further players so they have withdrawn from the league as of last weekend.

“Hopefully they will be able to regroup and enter a league next season.”

Burnham United, meanwhile, saw their match at Portishead Town Reserves postponed on Saturday and travel to Winscombe this weekend.

In Division 2, United Reserves host Tunley Athletic off the back of a 1-1 draw with Draycott at the weekend - Matty Scott netted.
