Somerset County League
Division 1 West
Burnham United 1, Street Reserves 2

A DISAPPOINTING second-half performance saw Burnham United slump to defeat at home to Street Reserves, leaving them without a win from six games played in 2018.

The game only went ahead after a tremendous effort by players and volunteers on the pitch.

Burnham were nearly behind early on when they overplayed at the back and set up the Street forward, who was denied by a sharp save from Harrison.

Morgan Sealey forced a smart save from the Street keeper, but the visitors broke quickly from the corner and more United overplaying at the back led to Street having a tap in to an empty net.

Burnham hit back almost immediately when Joe Selway put a brilliant ball through to Jordie Eldridge, who coolly equalised.

Burnham took a grip on the game for the rest of the half with Fin Paul, Waz Mylum and Sealey working hard in midfield; Stiles, Sealey and Selway were all denied.

In the second half Burnham lost this momentum and were sloppy in possession, giving Street a foothold in the game again.

Street piled the pressure on, forcing a string of corners.

From the third in succession Street took advantage, scrambling home their second goal.

Stiles could have equalised but headed over from a corner.

Merrick and Wilkinson were brought on and added an extra dimension out wide, with the latter putting in a number of dangerous crosses into the box which Burnham couldn’t capitalise on.
