Somerset County League
Division 1 West
Burnham Utd 1, Somerton Town 2

AFTER recording their first win of 2018 on Wednesday - 3-0 over Clevedon United Reserves - Burnham were looking build on this as they hosted league leaders Somerton.

The contest was pretty even for 25 minutes with both teams playing good football but neither found a clear opportunity in the sunny conditions.

Somerton took the lead from the penalty spot after Holley clipped the visitors' striker in the box after claims for a handball in the build-up were turned down.

Burnham’s best chance of the first half saw the hard-working Matt Scott’s lob just go over the bar.

However, right on half time, Somerton doubled their lead after a smart move, leaving Burnham a mountain to climb.

The second half saw Burnham have large amounts of possession but Somerton were dangerous on the break.

The introduction of Dave Keirle up front caused Somerton countless problems, and it was his smart header from a Morgan Sealey cross that gave Warren Mylum a simple task of heading into an empty net.

Burnham threw bodies forward as they went in search of an equaliser but Somerton held firm to win and keep them top of the table.

Nailsea United Res 4, Burnham United Res 1

BURNHAM Reserves started very poorly, and it showed as they went 1-0 down after five minutes.

It wasn’t until the half hour that they started to show some life, as neat one-two football was creating a few chances, but the team couldn’t capitalise.

In the second half, Burnham started much better and got their reward 10 minutes in when Louie Jones got a bit of luck with his shot, as the ball went through the keeper’s legs.

Individual mistakes then cost the Reserves with two quick goals.

The fourth came right at the end when the game was stretched.
