Burnham 189-2 beat Uphill Castle II 188-8 by 8 wkts

A SUPERB run chase from Burnham ensured their claimed an eight-wicket win over Uphill Castle at the weekend.

Winning the toss and fielding first Burnham made an excellent start as Mike Green dismissed both opening batsman in his first five overs with the score on 21.

Uphill responded with a third wicket partnership of 88 between Belcher (74) and A. Llewellyn (49) in the next 18 overs.

Brian Brogden started his spell by removing Llewellyn and rapidly snapped up the next two batsman.

Burnham now had the upper hand and kept the pressure on although, there were a few fielding lapses.

Belcher passed his half century from 78 balls but he was undone by the pace of returning bowler Rob Driver who had him caught behind. He also picked up two further wickets as the innings closed at 188-8, with Driver finishing with 3-45 and Brogden 3-50.

Burnham replied with an opening stand of 43 before Brad House fell LBW for 18.

Jim Bloodworth was at his belligerent best, scoring freely all around the wicket and being well supported by Driver, they rapidly pushed the score to 120 in the 28th over.

Bloodworth finally fell LBW to the persistent Chris Slocombe for 75 which included 3 sixes and 9 fours. Driver now took over the attack and with Scott Dalrymple in support rapidly overtook the Uphill score. Driver led the way with his third half century of the season and finished on 60 not out with two sixes and three fours, well supported by Dalrymple who ended on 30 not out.
