AN UNBEATEN 115 from Andy Ashfold powered Burnham-on-Sea II to a comprehensive 150 run victory over Wedmore II.

Batting first, Burnham posted a huge 275-4 with Gavin Clifton (74) supporting the outstanding Ashfold with a well-constructed half-century. Harding, batting at number four, added an aggressive 39 and he and Ashfold took the score to 250 with only a few overs remaining.

Harding was then caught in the deep, but brief cameos from Harvey and Coles ensured that Burnham posted an intimidating total.

In reply, Wedmore reached 32 inside seven overs and looked up for the chase, but a flurry of wickets dented their chances as James Annison and Jack Marsh tore through the top order to reduce them to 35-3.

From here on in wickets continued to fall. Charalambous (18) temporarily threatened to throw a spanner in Burnham’s works, smashing two fours and a big six, but his success was short-lived as he was caught and bowled by Harvey, leaving Wedmore 83 for 6.

The combined efforts of Gamblin, Harris and Maguire took the Wedmore score into 3 figures, but by then Wedmore would have needed a minor miracle to win the game.

Andy Birkett took the last wicket, dismissing Gamblin just 4 runs short of his 50. Patch was unable to bat, having been taken to hospital after being hit on the head whilst fielding, handing Burnham victory an 150-run victory.
