In the Somerset Shrubbery Cricket League Division 4, Mark lost out by two runs to Staplegrove, in a high-scoring match on Saturday.

Staplegrove amassed 252-6 from their 45 overs, thanks to 92 from W Wiltshire and 47 not out from J Quick. For Mark, N Coleman took 3-23, but Staplegrove still managed to post a huge total. In reply, Mark put up an impressive fight, falling just two runs short as N Cattermole (70), N Coleman (73) and Ollerenshaw (57 not out) all struck half-centuries. But it wasn’t quite enough; as Staplegrove held on to record a hard-fought victory.

In Division 8N, Wedmore II were convincingly beaten by Uphill Castle Crusaders after being bowled out for just 86, in pursuit of Uphill’s 146. J Tonkin (26) top scored for Wedmore, as they crashed to defeat. K Wall (4-25) had earlier blown away the Uphill middle-order, as they were bowled out for 146. T Ingle (2-13) and T Fozzard (2-9) also chipped in with two wickets apiece, but were let down the team’s batting performance. Huntspill and District II crept to a three wicket victory over Wellington, thanks to a five-wicket haul from N Statton. Statton took 5-45 as Wellington were all out 119 inside 37 overs. The Huntspill chase was a shaky one, but N James (16 not out) saw his side over the line.

Elsehwere in the division, East Huntspill II were beaten by 93 runs by Bridgwater Sports. Batting first, Bridgwater posted 218-9 from their 45 overs, with K Watts taking (4-44) for Huntspill. But their chase fell well short as they crashed to 125 all out, with J Melhuish (26), the only player to reach 20.

Wedmore ‘A’ were bowled out for just 62 as they slumped to a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Weston IIII. In reply, Weston had little trouble knocking off the runs and reached their target in the 20th over.
