HUNTSPILL and District remain top of Division 4 of the Somerset Cricket League, following a 22-run victory over Cheddar II on Saturday.

A half-century from C Slack (74) and important contributions from Matt Counsell (31) and S Eley (21) propelled Huntspill to 225 from their 45 overs. With the ball, three wickets apiece for J Dibble (3-40), C Organ (3-45) and Sam Lillycrop (3-55) helped to bowl Cheddar out for 202 in the final over of the innings.

Batting first, Huntspill and District got off to a steady start, but lost Lillycrop (19) and Eley (21) in quick succession. D Cavill added 10 before he followed the openers back to the pavilion, but Slack stood firm and he and Counsell carried their side up towards the 200 mark. A late cameo from J Dibble (18) took Huntspill up to a competitive 225, before they were bowled out in the 44th over.

Cheddar II lost Humberstone in the very first over as he departed without troubling the scorers. But his opening partner Hutchinson (33) solidified the innings with a controlled knock. A number of the Cheddar batsman got starts, but the three-prong seam attack of Huntspill and District made regular in-roads into the batting line-up. Peverall (46) and Russett (33) threatened to take the game away from Huntspill, but when both were dismissed, Cheddar collapsed to 202 all out to give Huntspill and District the win.
