Somerset League Division Three - Burnham 167-7, Kilve 120

A FIVE-wicket haul from Darren Aston propelled Burnham to a 47-run victory over Kilve on Saturday.

Aston took 5-38 from 11 overs as Kilve were bowled out for 120 in pursuit of Burnham’s 167-7.

He then followed up his bowling heroics with a fluent 31 not out to see his side to victory.

Put into bat, Burnham initially found runs hard to come by.

Only Brad House (25) and Pete Harris (27) made any useful contributions. After Stone and Penwell had completed their 24 overs the home side were poised at 65-3.

Change bowlers Darrell and Payne kept the batsmen under pressure and between them took another four wickets as Burnham struggled to 103-7 in the 36th over.

It was now that Aston and Booth tore into the attack and added 64 runs in the last ten overs, Aston being 31 not out and Booth 30 not out.

Their 64 was the highest 8th wicket partnership in league cricket for Burnham.

Kilve found batting equally difficult early on, and after Ed Booth had removed both openers A.Martin (18) and E.Martin (13), Darren Aston took over, claiming three wickets for one run in his first two overs to put Kilve on the defensive.

Andy Smith joined in and claimed 2-10 as Aston continued to torment the batsmen.

He took two more wickets before Mike Green landed the final blow to give Burnham a 47 run victory over league leaders Kilve.

The first XI travel to Wedmore next for their final game of the season.
