Burnham 215-6 beat Castle Cary 114 by 101 runs

TOBY Keast returned figures of 5-35 to bowl Burnham to a 101-run victory over Castle Cary on Saturday.

Australian leg-spinner Keast, who has joined Burnham from Victorian Premier side Richmond, tore through the Carey line-up to secure a memorable win for the hosts.

Earlier, important knocks from P Harris (39), Rob Driver (32), D Worthington (26) and Brad House (24no) helped Burnham post 215-6 batting first – and Cary’s reply started in positive fashion as they raced to 30, before Bontorth became one of Brogden’s (3-21) three victims of the afternoon.

From here, Keast got to work, accounting for Elsworth (38) - who had looked in good touch – and Uhbi (2), while Brogden dismissed Lake (1) in between.

Keast then took three of the next four wickets to fall as Cary began to crumble in a heap – and Harris put an end to proceedings with two wickets in four overs to register Burnham’s first league win of the season.

The Cary innings was wrapped up inside 41 overs, but Keast’s spell had halted any momentum they had looked to be building and had left them right behind the eight ball.

Born in Cambridge (UK), Keast immigrated to Australia in 2003 and has enjoyed a raft of junior representative experience - and has also excelled in Indoor Cricket for Victoria through the age-groups.

He was named the top Victorian under 17 player and gained selection for the Australian All Stars in 2013.

Keast is though, eager to progress in the outdoor version of the game and is hoping a productive summer in the Somerset League will push his claims for higher honours.
