Somerset Cricket League Division Two

Burnham 157-2 beat Ilton 153-9 by eight wickets

SIX wickets from James Annison and 88 not out from Pete Harris fired Burnham to an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Ilton on Saturday.

Annison ran riot in the Ilton batting line-up to claim 6-25 from 12 overs and help Burnham restrict the visitors to just 153-9 from their 45 overs - before Harris, opening the batting, played fluently to ease his side to their target inside 37 overs.

Chief destroyer Annison joined forces with Rob Driver to ransack the Ilton top order, before M Davies (50) and R Jones (63) rebuilt the innings with a solid fourth-wicket partnership.

But once that pair had been dismissed, Annison got back to work and blew away the middle order with another superb spell of bowling.

Driver (1-17) and Toby Keast (1-25) chipped in with a wicket apiece, to keep Ilton to a below-par total.

In reply, Burnham lost Bloodworth (8) early on to the bowling of Brunt (1-54) - but Driver (26) steadied the ship at number three.

Driver and Harris were beginning to look comfortable and took Burnham past the 100 mark and ever closer to their target.

Sewell (1-16) made the breakthrough for Ilton, accounting for Driver, but Brad House (21no) picked up where he had left off.

At the other end, Harris continued on his merry way and soon struck the winning runs off the bowling of Price (0-23) to complete a commanding win for the hosts.

After three games in Division two, Burnham sit third in the table with two wins and a defeat from their opening games - they travel to east Coker on Saturday.
