Huntspill & District 158-9 lost to Lympsham 159-4 by six wickets

DAN Cavill's half-century wasn't enough to prevent Huntspill & District from crashing to a six wicket defeat to Lympsham on Saturday.

Cavill (66) top scored for the hosts as they posted 158-9 from thei5 45 overs, but Lympsham's openers set the tone of the reply with a strong opening partnership from which Huntpsill never recovered.

G Hutton (61), D Luff (52no) led the way for the visitors, as they cruised home with seven overs to spare.

Batting first, Huntspill made a bright start courtesy of Cavill and Sam Lillycrop (23).

Lillycrop and Jake Randall fell in quick succession - and when Matt Osmant and Matt Counsell followed in similar fashion, the innings was in need of a rebuild.

Lower down, Mark Crawford (35) provided good support to Cavill to get Huntspill back on track and help them along to 158-9.

T Gooding (2-31) and S Poole (3-31) were the pick of the Lympsham attack, while there were also wickets for J Luff (1-24), A Micklewright (1-27) and M Mitchell (1-23).

The Huntspill opening bowlers failed to make the much-needed breakthrough, as Hutton and Luff peppered the boundaries with an array of attacking shots.

Hutton was eventually dismissed for a well-compiled half-century, but the damage had already been done.

Matt Counsell (2-18), Jake Randall (1-34) and Matt Osmant (1-10) did their best to swing the game back in Huntspill's favour, but D Luff guided his side home to seal a six-wicket win.
