Somerset Cricket League Division Three

Huntspill and District 246-7 beat Wincanton 177 by 69 runs

HALF-centuries from Dan Cavill and Matt Osmant inspired Huntspill & District to a commanding victory over Wincanton on Saturday.

Cavill (62) and Osmant (53) set up the win with impressive displays with the bat, while other contributions from Matt Counsell (44) and Sam Lillycrop (25) propelled Huntspill to 246-7 batting first.

Wincanton’s reply fell well short and they were bowled out with two overs to spare, thanks to three wickets apiece for CJ Organ (3-33) and Jake Randall (3-28).

Matt Counsell (1-32) and Sam Lillycrop (1-41) were also in the wickets for Huntspill to complete a comprehensive win.

Huntspill were on top from beginning to end and their innings began in dominant fashion, with Cavill and Lillycrop finding the boundary regularly.

When the latter was dismissed, Osmant continued where he had left off with a well-compiled fifty.

Counsell added a quick-fire 44 to take Huntspill past the 200 mark – and some late hitting from Organ (10) saw the visitors post a very competitive score.

Organ then struck early in the Wincanton reply to remove both openers – and despite 44 from A Coombes, Wincanton were never in the chase.

A Tremlett (30) provided some brief resistance, but the wickets were tumbling at the other end thanks to some good bowling from the Huntspill attack and Wincanton were eventually all out for 177.

The win sees Huntspill pull away from the bottom two in Division Three and is just their second win of the season.

They host Wellington 2nd XI on Saturday before travelling to Uphill Castle 2nd XI the following week.
