Huntspill & District 140 lost to Wellington 2nd XI 162 by 22 runs

HUNTSPILL & District slumped to a 22-run defeat at the hands of Wellington 2nd XI on Saturday, despite the best efforts of Tom Garner.

Garner top scored with 53 as Huntspill were all out for 140 in pursuit of Wellington’s 162 – but lacked support from the other end, as only Dan Cavill (21) and Andy Jarvis (23) offered any resistance.

Earlier, Jake Randall (3-29) and Matt Counsell (3-17) had taken three wickets apiece to put the hosts in the ascendency, while Sam Lillycrop (2-34) was also in the wickets.

Wellington were asked to bat first on losing the toss and they reacted well to this situation as Robin Davies and Trevor Brooks added 56 opening wicket runs making 39 and 16 between them.

After these two efforts only Kevin Crout with 67 stayed firm against the efforts of Randall and Counsell.

Huntspill's opening salvo was worth 34 runs, as Cavill with 21 dominated matters, but Will Derrick, who is having a fine season for Wellington, removed both openers by the time the score had reached 39.

Tom Garner with 53 was then the mainstay of Huntspill's effort with the bat, but Wellington kept chipping away - and when Evett effected a run out Wellington had a 22-run win.
