A CENTURY from Dave Luff helped Lympsham & Belvedere to a thumping 136-run victory over Ilton in Division 4 of the Shrubbery Hotel Somerset Cricket League.

Luff hit 14 boundaries in his unbeaten 104, and teamed up well with opening partner Samuel McCrea (57) and Jack Luff (53) to help the visitors to an imposing 265-3 from 45 overs.

Ilton’s opening pair made a good start in reply, with captain Damian Price hitting 74 and C. Jones adding 24, but no other player reached double figures and five picked up ducks as the home side crumbled to 129 all out.

McCrea led the way with the ball for Lympsham, taking 4-34 to go alongside his earlier runs.

Wedmore claimed the Division 6N bragging rights, defeating near neighbours East Huntspill by 14 runs.

M. Boley’s 76 helped Wedmore to 165-7 and, though N. Harding’s 68 ensured the hosts put up a good fight, the away side closed out the victory.

Elsewhere in the division, Burnham 2nds lost by three wickets at home to Temple Cloud 2nds.

A. Ashfold’s unbeaten 84 was the top score in Burnham’s 174-4, but J. Head replied with 72 as Temple Cloud passed the target with an over to spare.

D. Tippetts enjoyed a good day with bat and ball but could not inspire his Huntspill & District 2nds side to victory over Uphill Castle Cavaliers, who left with a seven-wicket win in the Division 7N encounter.

Tippetts scored 51 not out as his side ended on 169-6 and then took two of the three Uphill Castle wickets to fall, finishing with 2-15 from eight overs, but B. Castle’s undefeated 65 helped the away side over the line.

Mark were also comfortably beaten, falling to a 91-run reverse at Horrington.

T. Lewis ended with economical figures of 3-10 from eight overs as Mark reduced Horrington to 197-9, but only M. Norris (34) made any score of note as Mark were dismissed for 106.

In Division 8N, Lympsham & Belvedere 2nds eased past Purnells 2nds by nine wickets.

Sam Jennings and Kevin Crockett each took three wickets as Purnells were bowled out for 112, a total which was never going to be enough once Tom Cates (26*) and Crockett (43*) got going in reply.

Nine-man Wedmore 2nds put in a valiant effort against Wembdon 4ths but were on the wrong end of a four-wicket defeat.

T. Fozzard’s 44 was the highlight in the home side’s 94-8, and L. Hawthorne (2-30) and S. Tucker (2-8) ensured the depleted home side made a game of it, but Sean Jones’ unbeaten 44 proved pivotal as the visitors claimed the win.
