Burnham-on-Sea 240-5 beat Winscombe 236-6 by 5 wkts
ROB Driver struck a crucial unbeaten 85 as Burnham completed an excellent run chase to defeat Winscombe in Division 2 of the Shrubbery Hotel Somerset League.
Winscombe batted first and saw both Michael Hayes (68) and Tom Hall (52) bring up half-centuries as they reached 236-6 from their allotted 45 overs, with R. Bradley (29) and R. Shephard (27) also chipping in.
The wickets were shared among the Burnham attack, with J. Harding (2-47) leading the way and James Annison, who took a match-winning hat-trick last week, taking 1-39 from his nine overs.
Burnham’s reply was a true team effort, as each of the seven batsmen who were needed made it into double figures.
Opening pair Pete Harris (36) and Dave Worthington (10) set the tone, with Driver entering at number three to play the pivotal innings.
He was well supported by Brad House, who made 54 and, though L. Coles (10) and Jim Bloodworth (12) could not quite see it over the line, Annison made an unbeaten 14 as he and Driver saw Burnham to victory.
The hosts claimed 31 points from the match, a total which saw Burnham narrow the gap between themselves in fourth and defeated Winscombe in third to 13 points.
This weekend, Burnham go in search of another victory as they travel to third-bottom Bridgwater A.
