Shrubbery Hotel Somerset League
Division 2
Burnham 184-6 beat Chard 97 by 87 runs
ROB Driver’s match-winning 87 not out for Burnham proved to be the difference between his side and Chard 2nds in Division 2 of the Shrubbery Hotel Somerset League on Saturday.
Burnham batted first and lost both openers early, with Pete Harris falling for seven and Dave Worthington making two.
The situation required a rebuilding job which Driver and Brad House (27) embarked upon successfully, laying the foundations for useful knocks from Ed Lewis (32) and Jake Harding (13*).
Driver was the mainstay of the innings, compiling a vital unbeaten 87 to help Burnham end on 184-6 from their 45 overs.
The in-form James Annison then took 3-23 from seven overs in reply, with House (3-16) and Lewis (3-17) backing up their earlier runs with impressive bowling performances.
Harding (1-1 from three) took the other wicket to fall as Chard were bowled out for 97, with Darren Druce top scoring for the strugglers - who remain bottom of the table after the convincing defeat - with 22.
Burnham took 34 points from the victory and sit fifth in the table with four matches remaining.
The first of those comes this Saturday when promotion-chasing Shapwick & Polden 2nds are the visitors, with Burnham going in search of their seventh win of the season.
