Shapwick & Polden 2nds 125-6 beat Burnham 123 by 4 wkts
A POOR batting display saw Burnham beaten by Shapwick on Saturday.
Batting first, Burnham lost Dave Worthington early on before Pete Harris and Rob Driver steadied the innings in the face of a fine bowling spell from Steve Spencer (1-7 off nine).
Harris was out for 16 and Driver was left isolated as the middle order collapsed.
Jim Bloodworth added some much-needed impetus to the innings, blasting his way to a fine 40 from No 7 but, when he departed, Driver was still there on 32no as the tail collapsed.
Shapwick’s openers set out after their target in confident mood, despite James Annison’s lively opening spell.
Spearing was out for 17 but Smith continued to build the total with support from W. Rudge (13).
Shapwick experienced a middle-order wobble after Smith fell for 45 but Jacques Luckins (13no) and P. Lang (18no) negotiated their way over the line.
Annison was the pick of the Burnham attack, ending with 3-45.
