WEDMORE remain rooted to the foot of the Somerset Shrubbery League Division Two after a six-wicket loss to high-flying North Perrott.

The team posted a very creditable 204-6 thanks to an unbeaten 71 from T Stevens and supportive contributions from S Harris (39), M Boley (22) and M Plummer (21).

But the bowlers toiled in the heat as an unbeaten 115 from North Perrott’s opener saw them chase the runs down with four overs to spare.

In Division Three, Huntspill and District continue to stare down the barrel of relegation as they suffered a hefty 246-run defeat to Bridgwater ‘A’.

The visitors hit a mammoth 330-7 as the ball flew around to all parts with only S Lismore (3-42) and A Knight (2-37) proving to be the thorn in their side.

In reply, Huntspill were unable to match the run scoring as capitulated to 84 all out despite a gritty 27 from opener D Cavill.

Division Five side Mark also struggled against Cranmore. After restricting Cranmore to 173 thanks to wickets from L Degales (4-47) and three apiece for M Mitchell (3-53) and T Moxey (3-26) they fell 22 runs shy on 151-9 with Degales top scoring on 32 not out.

Mark 2nds also suffered the same fate as their 1st XI team mates as they were skittled for 89, chasing 138 for victory. Cranmore were indebted to 52 from D Monk, the only man to score double figures, as all the Mark bowlers chipped in with wickets.

But despite 42 from J Picton in reply, Mark crumbled to 89 all out.
Also in Division 8NE, Wedmore 2nds produced a superb performance to beat Sparkford by nine wickets.

C Major (3-47) and J Burgess (3-34) took three wickets apiece to help restrict the visitors to 140-9 from their overs before half centuries from L Ptach and D Haning secured the comfortable win.

In Division 9NW, Wedmore ‘A’ were heavily beaten by Chilton Polden 2nds. T Fozzard hit 24 in Wedmore’s total of 59 – a toal which proved slim work for Chilton Polden who chased the runs down in under 19 overs.

East Huntspill 2nds conceded their match with Huntspill and District 2nds, the latter taking the full 30 points.
