THE Avenue Tennis Club in Burnham staged a festival of tennis for juniors last month.
A total of 26 players took part in matchplay and tournaments, and a couple of the club’s mini red (under-eight) players got their first taste of competitive tennis with soe mmatches played on a shorter court with a slower, low-bouncing ball.
In the early afternoon the first tournament of the day for the mini oranges (nine and under players) took place, and eight players battled it out on the courts for three hours with Theo Clarke emerging as the winner.
The standard of play was excellent from all players.
Mini green (ten and under) was up next for another eight players, and the standard was exceptional, culminating in a dramatic final between Josh Proctor and orange champion Theo.
Every game seemed to go to deuce and the four games to a love score line did not do justice to the two gladiators
