BARRIE Tucker excelled in the wet and windy conditions which greeted the competitors in the Seniors November Medal on Thursday morning.

He was the only player to come close to matching his handicap as he returned a nett 70, level par, to win by four and collect his second win in three days.

Mike Drayton was the runner-up on nett 74 whilst Pete Douglas edged out Barrie Yearsley on a countback for third after they both managed nett 75's.

The conditions were no better two days earlier when 17 hardy Seniors ventured out in the latest Winter League fixture.

The three man bowmaker event was played over 15 holes and the winning trio with an 8 under par score of 112 was Captain Allen Fellingham, Barrie Tucker and Bob Hurrell.

Runners up two shots behind were Dai Wood, Bill Griffin and Ian Welch.

Third place was secured by Barrie Yearsley, Roger Phillips and Ken Ponter with 116.

Mike Carter has hit a good run of form of late and he added a Winter League win on Saturday after a round of 40 points. He required a countback to fend off the attentions of Pete Barton who matched that score and will probably rue his short missed putt on his final hole which denied him top spot.

Both players saw their handicaps reduced by a shot as well. Leighton Jenkins was the third placed man with his 39 point score.

The following day it was the second of the Turkey competitions with this week’s format being a greensomes Stableford.

Murray Parsons and Russell Shaw emerged as winners as after finishing strongly with two birdies for their 44 point total. Second place took some working out as two pairs tied on 42 points with identical scores over the usual countback holes.

In the end, over the back 10 holes it was declared that Trevor Pitt and Richard Triscott edged out Leighton Jenkins and Jason Kidley.
