BERROW Basics’ John Lock had a nightmare last hand as his side and If Only ground out a dour tie in Division 4 of the Highbridge & District Skittles League.

Lock failed to hit a pin as If Only were gifted a surprise draw at the Berrow Club.

The game ended a record-breaking 353 apiece – the league’s lowest ever scoring draw.

Lock was not the only one misfiring on the night, with not one Basics skittler breaking 50.

Legionaires’ skittlers must be suffering from vertigo. They have spent the last ten years trying and, mostly, failing not to finish bottom, but now they find themselves top of the pile after they defeated pointless Home Guard by seven at the Basonbridge Inn.

Tony Mansfield led the way with 76.

Cowboys anchorman Pat Hancock finished with a 16-spare which secured a two-pin victory over the Tryer’s in Division 1 at the Pawlett Legion Club.

Needing 76 for victory, Nick Morgan had an early spare, and it was the anchorman who proved very unpopular with the home side after his fine effort, which took his score to 72.

With Bombers having a week off, Steamers took full advantage and now lead by two points after a workmanlike 56- pin victory over the Social Club at the Victoria Hotel.

The Lads remain rock bottom after they went down by five to Off The Rails at the Lighthouse Inn, despite the efforts of Mark Fairchild who had five spares in his total of 89.

However, with Pete Dudley scoring 75 and Greg Facey 76, it was the Rails who came out on top.

In Division 2, Little Acorns are two points clear after they came from behind to defeat Four Finger Club by seven at the Railway Inn.

Acorns trailed by eight going into the last hand but a 78 pulled 17 and took them to a seven-pin victory, Andrew Bridgwater topping the board with 77 and John Doughty chipping in with 71.

Crown Criminal skittler Matty Edwards had a 23 double flopper but very little else at the Brent Knoll Inn. He helped his side to a 31- pin margin over the Brent Knoll Inn.

In Division 3, Why Try? and Wanderers finished all square at the Coopers Arms on 409 a piece, as both teams finished with last hands of 58.

In another tight match, Rovers had a pin to spare over the Misfits at the Pawlett Legion. Rovers’ Rob Hooper was the hero after scoring 72 which included a fourth hand 21 double flopper.
