RON Vine was the victor in the Bogey Trophy on Saturday with a score of +5.

This was two better than anyone else could manage in the event which sees the players play matchplay against the course.

Three players returned scores of +3 and a countback was needed to determine who would finish second, third and fourth.

Phil Aspinall won that countback and took the runners up prize ahead of the ever improving Rich Lambert.

The final player of that trio, Graham Exton, had to settle for the final prize on offer in fourth spot.

The Seniors Ward Tankard is an 18 hole stableford but each player can only take two clubs and a putter into battle with them.

This restriction from the usual 14 allowed was no handicap to the in-form Roger Phillips, as he still beat his handicap by four and recorded an excellent 40 points.

Not surprisingly this afforded him a healthy advantage over the runner up who was Charlie Hastie on 34 with Tony Roper one behind him taking third on 33.

With a large number of players away for the end of season Avalon League team weekend Sunday’s event was changed to a Winter League Stableford.

The opening event of the season saw some good scoring with 40 points being the winning score.

Steve Martin had a storming back nine despite losing a ball on one hole for his 40 points and this was enough to edge out his playing partner Simon Baunton for the win on a countback.

Two more players also posted 39 points with Kevin Davies winning another countback over Ian Adams.

Brean Professional Andrew March shared top spot in the Weston Super Mare Pro Am last week.

He covered the North Somerset course in 68 strokes which set the pace early in the day.

He was then joined but not beaten by 5 other players with that same score so had to share the spoils on offer for the Pro’s.
