WILL Crandon won the Club Championship at Burnham and Berrow Golf Club for the first time last Sunday.

It is the first time that Will (24), who learned to play golf as a junior at Burnham and Berrow, has appeared in the final.

Three handicapper Will, beat this years’ club captain Adrian Deakins 7and6 in the 36 hole final playing some of his best golf ever.

In the morning round holes were readily exchanged and he found himself one down, after Deakins had made birdie at the 11th.

Crandon then turned things around, over the closing seven holes playing them in one under, turning a one hole deficit into a four hole lead at lunch.

In the afternoon despite some good shots from Deakins he could not peg back Crandon who played imperious golf racing to the turn in three under par picking up birdies at the fifth, eighth and ninth holes, extending his lead to seven holes.

Following three more successive pars from Crandon the pair eventually shook hands on the 12th green.

Although it is the first time Will has won the Club Championship, it will be the fourth time a Crandon’s name will be engraved onto the trophy as his father, Troy Crandon has won the title on three previous occasions in 1985, 2000 and 2001.

Last year’s club captain Neil Darby also saw a welcome return to form, winning division one of the club stableford last Saturday with 40 points.

In recent weeks, Neil has been threatening a good score and despite a bogey at the last hole his gross score of 73 for 40 stableford points gave him a one shot victory over the newly crowned club champion Will Crandon.

Division Two was won by Paul Bamsey with 38 points.

Next weekend sees the start of The West of England Winter Foursomes.
