THE November Stableford got off to a foggy start on Sunday morning at Brean as play was held up briefly whilst the mist cleared.

Once it had gone the players got going to see who would lift the Sam Smalldon Memorial Trophy for the best score of the day.

The Division One players dominated proceedings with the leading three players all coming from that section. All three of those players carded 41 points and a countback was needed to separate them.

Tom Broom came out on top ahead of Leighton Jenkins with Pete Barton the unlucky one to miss out in third. Division Two was taken by Tony Higgins with 40 ahead of Jerry Brueford on 38 - 38 was the winning score in the Third flight and again a countback was needed to decipher the top two.

Rich Lambert repeated his success of the previous month as he held off Byron Lismore on the back nine.

Ian Adams compiled a superb card of 44 points to win the second round of the Winter League the previous day.

In conditions more akin to late Summer than Halloween he racked up the winning number of points with a steady round which also reduced his handicap by two back to 18.

He won by three from Steve Mason who threatened to beat Adams winning score at the halfway point but faltered slightly on the closing holes to have to settle for second.

Third place went to Nigel Hodges on 39 as he followed up his Flag win last Sunday with another solid showing.

The Seniors endured some wet and windy weather last week as they tried to play two competitions.

Firstly the re-arranged Medal from earlier in the month was replayed and although not enough entered to constitute a counting competition a result was declared. Bob Toller was the winner with a nett 71 beating Barrie Tucker on a countback.

Seniors Secretary Allen Fellingham introduced a new event on Thursday, Seniors Triple Chance, where points were scored against your opponents rather than the course.

The rules confused many but after taking part their understanding was much better and they actually said they quite enjoyed it! George Stratford was the winner with 20 points ahead of Dave Benjafield on countback.
