Sedgemoor Two

Weston-super-Mare 2 Burnham 4

BURNHAM clinched promotion with this terrific team performance at Weston-super-Mare.

With one game to go they cannot be caught in second spot now, as it was Weston that were closest to them.

They began really sharp and bright with the front four on fire all game and quickly went two goals ahead.

Amy Edmundson took on their defence down the right with a superb run, before rounding the goalkeeper and pulling the ball back for Kerry Harvey to slot in.

Ali Evely then found Caroline Hunt with a super through ball, who played a nice one two with Carly Bush.

Bush won a penalty corner which Hunt duly smashed low into the bottom corner.

Weston pulled one back despite goalkeeper Sian Kelly saving the initial shot with her stick, before the Blues stretched their lead again.

This time it was Harvey's positive run and cross that Hunt swept home for her second.

Edmundson's strike from a short was then disallowed for being too high before Weston again responded with a goal as the match tipped back and forth to half time.

With the game on a knife edge the second half was tight and tense but Burnham's experience was vital.

Nicky Glanville was immense at the back calmly and coolly dealing with everything Weston threw at her and reassuring those around her.

Imogen Wright and Evely ran, tackled and covered all over the pitch and Kelly was on top form.

This allowed the incredibly hard working midfield with captain, Sarah Johnson leading by example to push on and support the attack.

June England went close after good work between Bush and Johnson before Burnham scored again.

Louise Peace combined well with Harvey and a mix-up in the D allowed Peace's shot to trickle over the line for a goal her performance deserved.

This time Burnham never looked like letting their two-goal cushion slip and indeed it proved enough to see out the match.

This was a magnificent result which epitomises their outstanding season which everyone involved in can be extremely proud of - a real team effort.

The final match of the season is away at White Eagles on Saturday.
