A LARGE number of members attended Burnham and Berrow Golf Club last Friday at the official opening of the newly refurbished clubhouse.

A considerable sum was invested in redecorating the lounge and downstairs dining room in the clubhouse which was constructed in 1912.

New carpet curtains and furniture completed the makeover reinforcing the golf club’s reputation, ranked 33rd in the top 100 courses in Great Britain and Ireland.

At the opening club chairman, Harvey Sampson paid tribute to the tireless work shown by director of house, Jackie Richards who managed the project from start to finish.

Last years’ captain Adrian Deakins also unveiled a new picture that he presented to the club depicting caricatures of prominent club members in his year of office which happened to be the historic golf club’s 125 anniversary.

In one of the largest entries of the year 128 members turned out on a beautiful spring morning to play in the Home Internationals Stableford last Saturday with players representing one of the home nations.

Martin Plant who was representing England returned the best score of the day with 42 points.

Representing Scotland Steve Haines was not far behind with 41 points, but despite this it did not help them win the event with Ireland coming out on top with a points average of 32.75.

Wales won the ladies event with a points average of 31.5, with team member Mandy Vickers helping to lead the team to victory with the best ladies score of 38 points.
