GARY Anderson faces Dutchman Benito van der Pas in the last 16 of the PDC World Darts Championship tonight, as he bids to retain his title.
The 46-year-old Scot, who lives in Burnham-on-Sea, won his last match 4-0 against Andrew Gilding at Alexandra Palace last Friday, having already seen off Mark Frost in his championship opener by a 3-0 scoreline.
The second seed won each set 3-1 against Gilding, averaging 102.58, to progress towards what he hopes will be a third straight title.
The Burnham resident told Sky Sports: “Like Mark [Frost], Andrew’s someone you don’t want to face; he’s a classy player but he never got going up there.”
Anderson now plays 15th-seeded Van der Pas in the last 16, to be played tonight and shown live on Sky Sports.
Looking ahead to the match, ‘The Flying Scotsman' said: “Benito played well [against Terry Jenkins], but tomorrow it’s a different day.”
